Peter Pettersen
I was born in Czechia in 1994, and for a brief moment, I held the distinction of being the youngest person in the world. My academic pursuits initially led me to study natural sciences, including chemistry, biology, ecology, environmentalism, and global issues. Although my fascination with nature was unwavering, I soon realized that a life confined to a laboratory was not for me.
This realization prompted me to shift my focus and pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Recreation and Leisure, a field encompassing subjects such as Outdoor Education and Activities, Recreation and Healthy Lifestyles in the Regional level, Anatomy, Leadership, Project Management, and much more.
As part of my education, I participated in two exchange programs in Norway:
-Norwegian School of Sport Sciences: Neuromuscular Physiology and Nutrition & Health
-University of South-Eastern Norway: Physical Education and Outdoor Activities
These experiences further solidified my passion for nature and the great outdoors.
I worked as a guide for Czech travel agency and guided people in the mountains of Corsica, Montenegro, Italy and Norway.
I am among a select few certified Northern Lights guides with experience spanning four seasons. I have previously worked with various companies in Senja and Tromsø. My passion for the Northern Lights is undeniable, and I am constantly observing the night sky in search of this enchanting spectacle. This fascination extends even to my vacations in southern latitudes, such as Italy or Greece, where you can not find the Northern lights, but my devotion to them is not only a pure addiction but also a deeply ingrained habit.
As a result, you can be confident that I will always strive to provide an unparalleled Northern Lights experience for both you and myself.
My fascination with Arctic landscapes is equally strong. The ever-changing weather along the Norwegian coastline ensures that the scenery is always unique and captivating. Some days, a mysterious fog shrouds the landscape, while on others, the breathtaking light of the sunset illuminates the surroundings. The unpredictability of our tours only adds to the excitement, as we never know what encounters await us. We may have the chance to observe reindeer, moose, sea eagles, seals, or even orcas, dolphins, and whales in their natural habitats.

First guiding
I've had the pleasure of guiding for Alpina, a Czech travel office specializing in active vacations. My adventures with them included leading one-day hikes and crossings of the GR20 trail in Corsica, exploring Montenegro's rugged terrains, and navigating scenic hikes around Italy's Lago di Garda and Norway's dramatic landscapes. Each journey was a unique experience, blending breathtaking scenery with the thrill of outdoor exploration.
Friluftsliv
"Friluftsliv" translates to "open-air life" and is a deeply rooted concept in Scandinavian culture. It refers to the practice of spending time outdoors, appreciating nature, and living in harmony with the environment. It is about enjoying time in nature, the idea of embracing the outdoors, even when it involves discomfort or challenges. I have learned to provide this kind of experience to other people.
Northern lights guide - Training
At the start of 2020, I undertook an internship with The Green Adventure, where I received training as a northern lights guide. Over three months, I delved into the science behind the auroras, mastered techniques for chasing them, and learned to interpret weather forecasts to find clear skies. I also honed my skills in capturing the northern lights with my camera before the pandemic led to border closures.
Certification and Guiding at Senja
After the pandemic, I completed a "Northern Lights Guide" course with Northern Norway Travel Company, earning certification as one of the few truly accredited Northern Lights Guides. With this qualification, I worked on the stunning island of Senja, where (besides Northern lights tours) I led snowshoe hikes and fjord tours, including boat trips, and served as the activities manager for Mefjord Brygge Hotel.
Full Time Guiding
In the following season, I worked as a freelance guide, collaborating with several renowned companies, including Wandering Owl, Northern Shots, The Green Adventure, Villmarkssenter, and Tromsø Arctic Reindeer. This diverse experience allowed me to lead tours in various settings, from minivan, minibus, and large bus excursions to working in Sami camp with Reindeer and in Husky camp. Additionally, I conducted several private tours independently, further expanding my expertise.
Steam Pier
This year, I began an exciting collaboration with the stunning Steam Pier accommodation, where I had the honor of establishing and designing the entire tour concept. Together with two other guides, I now run these tours, which are crafted to reflect the extensive knowledge and experience I've gained over the years.
